If you have been searching for a good chiropractor in Jacksonville, you already know the challenge. There are a lot of options, and it is not always easy to tell from a website or a Google listing whether a practice is the right fit for you. I have been practicing in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville since 2014, and I want to give you something more useful than a generic checklist.

Every sign I share below is something I genuinely do in my practice, and I believe it reflects what quality chiropractic care actually looks like.
Sign 1: They Take Time to Understand You Before They Touch You
A thorough exam is not optional. It is the foundation of everything.
Before I adjust any patient at San Jose Chiropractic, I perform a detailed neurological evaluation, posture analysis, and orthopedic assessment. In many cases I also take specialized upper cervical X-rays to see exactly what is happening at the top of your spine.
This is not a formality. The information gathered during that initial exam determines whether chiropractic care is appropriate for you, what type of care you need, and how your adjustments should be delivered.
A chiropractor who skips a thorough exam and goes straight to adjusting is guessing. You deserve better than that.
Sign 2: They Explain What They Found and Why It Matters
You should leave your first appointment with a clear understanding of your situation.
I believe strongly in patient education. After your exam, I will walk you through what I found and explain how it may be connected to the symptoms you are experiencing. Whether you are dealing with headaches, vertigo, neck pain, or low back pain, you should understand the relationship between your spinal alignment and how you feel. If a chiropractor cannot explain your condition in plain language, that is a concern.
Sign 3: They Use a Specific, Advanced Technique
General is fine. Specialized is better.
I am a certified upper cervical Orthospinology chiropractor, and I am the only chiropractor in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville who offers this technique. Only about 1% of chiropractors in the United States hold this certification. Upper cervical care focuses exclusively on the top two vertebrae in the neck, the Atlas and the Axis, which sit directly beneath the brainstem. When these bones are misaligned, the effects can be felt throughout the entire body.
This is not the same as traditional chiropractic. There is no twisting of the neck, no loud cracking, and no force. The adjustment uses about the same pressure you would use to check a tomato for ripeness. If you have been hesitant about chiropractic because of what you have seen or heard, this approach may change your mind entirely. You can learn more on our upper cervical care page.
Sign 4: They Have Objective Evidence Before and After the Adjustment
Gut feelings are not a measurement. X-rays are.
One of the things that sets upper cervical Orthospinology apart is the use of pre- and post-adjustment X-rays. Before I adjust you, I take precise images to determine the exact position of the Atlas and Axis and calculate the specific angle needed for the correction. After the adjustment, I take post-X-rays to confirm the correction was actually made. You do not have to take my word for it. The images show exactly what changed.
This level of accountability is rare in chiropractic and it matters enormously for your outcomes.
Sign 5: They Do Not Adjust You at Every Single Visit
More adjustments do not always mean better care.
This surprises a lot of new patients. At San Jose Chiropractic, I check your alignment at every visit, but I only adjust you when your spine actually needs it. One of the goals of upper cervical care is to help your body hold its correction for longer and longer periods of time. Over-adjusting can actually interfere with that process. When I tell a patient they do not need an adjustment today, that is good news, not a sign that something is wrong.
A chiropractor who adjusts you at every appointment regardless of your alignment is not practicing evidence-based care.
Sign 6: They Have a Personal Connection to the Work They Do
The best practitioners have usually lived what they teach.
I did not set out to become a chiropractor. I was working toward pharmacy school when I began suffering from chronic ear infections and migraines. Over the course of 36 months, I had 30 ear infections. A surgeon recommended tubes in my ears. Instead, I tried upper cervical chiropractic. After one adjustment, my ear infections stopped. My migraines resolved. My blood pressure, which had climbed significantly, normalized on its own.
That experience changed everything for me. It is why I practice the way I do, and it is why I have a deep, personal understanding of what my patients are going through when they walk through the door for the first time.
Sign 7: They Help People Who Have Already Tried Everything Else
If you have been to other chiropractors or physical therapists without lasting results, there is a reason.
Many of my patients come to me after months or years of trying traditional chiropractic, physical therapy, massage, and medication. They have not failed at getting better. Their care simply never addressed the top of the spine, which is often where the root of the problem lives. When the Atlas is misaligned, the rest of the spine compensates. Treating the compensation without correcting the cause is why so many people plateau.
If this sounds like your situation, I would encourage you to explore whether upper cervical care might be the missing piece. We see patients for conditions ranging from migraines and vertigo to TMJ, neuropathies, fibromyalgia, ear infections, and chronic neck and low back pain.
Sign 8: They Are Transparent About What Chiropractic Can and Cannot Do
Trust the chiropractor who tells you the truth, not just what you want to hear.
I will never promise you a cure. What I will promise is an honest evaluation, a clear explanation of what I find, and a care plan designed specifically for your situation and your goals. Chiropractic is not the right answer for every condition, and a practitioner who claims otherwise is not someone you should trust with your health. My job is to help your nervous system function as well as it possibly can, and to be straightforward with you about what that can and cannot accomplish.
