Upper Cervical Orthospinology

San Jose Chiropractic features a highly sophisticated and successful patient care method known as Upper Cervical Orthospinology. Its track record is excellent. We have patients who drive as much as 2 ½ hours to receive this adjustment method. Our practice is the only health care center in Mandarin that offers this outstanding technology.

The Background Story

Your head sits on the top of the first bone in the spine, called the atlas. If the position of the atlas is crooked, the entire lower body will feel the effects as misalignment. This can result in back, foot and knee pain, shoulder discomfort or even sciatica.

Again, if the atlas is tilted, the lower segments of the spine begin to overcompensate. Chronic pain patterns can start to develop, and muscles and tendons also begin to become affected.

The brain controls every activity in the body. It does this through transmitting messages from the brain to the spinal cord and then out to the nerves. If the atlas, through its improper positioning, blocks those messages, nothing else is going to work optimally in the rest of the body.

In our clinic, we make sure that the atlas is in crystal clear alignment for optimal function. This way, the body can do what it’s designed to do: regulate and heal.

Dr. Thuraia Owais will first evaluate the positioning of the first two cervical vertebrae through 3-D X-ray technology. A thorough X-ray analysis will follow to determine the unique positioning pattern evident in your upper neck.

When it’s time for your adjustment, Dr. O will precisely position your head and neck, as well as the angle of the instrument-based, laser-guided adjustment tool. The adjustment itself only takes seconds. There’s no twisting, cracking or popping of the atlas. The care is exquisitely gentle. Following the adjustment, a post-X-ray will be taken to identify the degree of positive change in your upper neck.

Upper cervical adjustments are unique in that they hold for long periods of time. This means that when you come in for a check-up, it often won’t be necessary to receive an adjustment.

  • Better digestion and sleep
  • Increased energy
  • Elimination of headaches, migraines and ear infections
  • Resolution of dizziness, neurological issues, neuropathies and sinus problems

After the atlas is completely stable, Dr. O will check other elements of the spine. Most of the time, there’s no reason for additional care of the back and pelvis. A small percentage of people do require some adjustment, however.

To take care of this particular situation, we use two well-respected methods: Thompson Drop-table and Webster Technique. Webster Technique is designed specifically for pregnant moms. It’s gentle and precise in aligning the pelvis. It allows plenty of room for the baby in the womb and helps to ensure a safe and optimal delivery. Thompson is also a well-loved option. It’s also gentle, without any twisting or popping of the spine.
